Maud Sheehan (Margaret Maude Sheehan, 1886–1938, later Mrs. Edward J. Johns; 1907 Sagebrushers traveler)
Also known as: Maud Sheehan, Maude Sheehan, Margaret Maude Sheehan, Margaret A. Sheehan, Maude Johns, Maud Johns, Mrs. Edward Johns
family confidence: 0 — not family / context
Listed second on JJM's 1907 party list, JJM's own companion on the trip; went home from Gardiner on 14 Aug 1907. Identified (0.85) as Margaret Maude Sheehan, b. July 1886 in Montana, daughter of Timothy Sheehan (b. c.1850 Co. Cork; d. Butte 29 Oct 1899) and Catherine (Kate) Sheehan (b. Ireland; a rooming-house keeper in 1910). The 1910 census puts "Maude" Johns and her husband in her mother's household at 219 W. Copper St., the address Westfall's draft gives for Maud Sheehan in 1907. Married Edward James Johns (1883-1970, a Nevada-born plumber) c.1908-09; children Katherine Ann (1918-1990) and Edward James Jr. (1922-2013), both born in Pocatello, Idaho. Department-store bookkeeper in San Francisco by 1930 (487 Hayes St.). Died San Francisco 12 Mar 1938; buried Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. NOT Matilda Sheehan: Matilda K. (b. Aug 1888) is a younger sister, listed separately in the 1900 and 1910 censuses (single, a bookbinder in 1910); the earlier "Maud = Matilda" guess is withdrawn (2026-09-28). Siblings: Mary E. (b. 1883 Colorado), Matilda, Timothy J. (1891), Eveline (1893), Annie (1896), John (1898). Research: research/docs/sagebrushers-companions-2026-09-28/maud-sheehan.md

| — | name · identified as Margaret Maude Sheehan ("Margaret A." in the 1900 census, "Maude" Johns in 1910, "Maud" Johns in 1930), b. July 1886 in Montana, later Mrs. Edward J. Johns; not her younger sister Matilda K. (b. Aug 1888) Research pass 0.85 (maud-sheehan.md section 4): the decisive test is the address, Westfall's 1907 "219 W. Copper" = the 1910 census household of Catherine Sheehan, where "Maude" is the married daughter and Matilda (21, single, bookbinder) a separate person. 85 sits between strong (75) and near-certain (95): one independent check, but Westfall's directory reading is unverified.
