Mrs. Charles Emerson (1907 Sagebrushers trip cook; probably Annie / Anna E. Emerson, 1877–1907)

Also known as: Mrs. Charles Emerson, Annie Emerson, Anna E. Emerson

family confidence: 0 — not family / context

The cook of the 1907 Sagebrushers trip (JJM's original list; the Gazette's "a cook and his wife" is backwards). Cooked 25 Jul - 13 Aug 1907; paid off with her husband near Mammoth when he quit. PROBABLY (0.6) the "Mrs. Annie Emerson, wife of Charles Emerson and formerly a resident of Butte" who burned to death in a gasoline explosion at Belgrade on the morning of 4 Nov 1907 while she and her husband ran the Knutson restaurant (River Press, Fort Benton, 1907-11-13 p. 3, dateline Butte Nov. 5): Find a Grave 51229663, Anna E. Emerson, b. 1877 Norway, unmarked grave, Sunset Hills Cemetery, Bozeman. The fit is name, town, date and trade, eleven weeks after the party passed through Belgrade (18 Aug); no independent detail (address, first name in the diary, directory entry) yet ties the two couples together.
