William "Will" Thoroway, probably William Emory Thirloway (1882–1958; 1907 Sagebrushers traveler, with his wife)
Also known as: Wm. Thoroway, Will, Bill, Will Thirloway, William Emory Thirloway, W. E. Thirloway
family confidence: 0 — not family / context
Party member #9 on the 1907 diary, travelling with his wife (#10, probably "Bird"). JJM wrote the surname by ear ("Wm. Thoroway."), and Westfall found no Thoroway in the 1907 directory. Very probably (0.85) William Emory Thirloway, b. Butte 24 Jul 1882, son of George W. Thirloway (b. 1849 Tyne and Wear, England; d. Butte 1887) and Agnes Wardrop (b. 1850 Wishaw, Scotland; d. Butte 1925): Butte papers printed the family as "Mr. and Mrs. Thoroway" (Anaconda Standard 1898-04-17 p. 14) and "Miss Jennie Thoroughway" (his sister Jeanette, 1898-08-22 p. 5), and Find a Grave has no other adult William Thirloway in Butte in 1907. His wife Bertha L. Konen was May Konen's elder sister; their first child was born 25 Jun 1908 (children William Harvey, Lois Margaret, Loretta Agnes). Died Butte 14 Jun 1958; buried Mount Moriah Cemetery. The marriage date (before 25 Jul 1907 if he is the traveller) is not found. NOT related to Martin Towey, JJM's 1906 naturalization witness (the earlier spelling-drift guess, 0.01). Research: research/docs/sagebrushers-companions-2026-09-28/thoroways.md
