Charles "Charlie" Emerson (1907 Sagebrushers chuck-wagon driver; the cook's husband)
Also known as: Charlie Emerson, Charley
family confidence: 0 — not family / context
Husband of the trip's cook ("Cook & Husband / Mrs. & Mr. Charles Emerson" in JJM's original list, with "Chaperons." added later in ink); he drove the chuck wagon from Butte on 25 Jul 1907. A drinker ("a whiskey fiend", p. 33); quit on 13 Aug 1907 after walking to Gardiner against orders; both were paid off; last seen at Mammoth on 15 Aug. PROBABLY (0.6) the Charles Emerson, "formerly a resident of Butte", who with his wife Annie was running the Knutson restaurant at Belgrade when she died there on 4 Nov 1907 (River Press, Fort Benton, 1907-11-13 p. 3, dateline Butte Nov. 5). Birth, origin and death not found. NOT Charles I. Emerson, clerk at the Anaconda Reduction Works (1910), nor the Livingston Charles Cook Emerson (1875-1955) or Charles Leslie Emerson (1869-1942), nor the eastern-Montana Charles H. Emerson (1860-1924). Research: research/docs/sagebrushers-companions-2026-09-28/emersons.md
