Kate Cosgrove (1907 Sagebrushers traveler; Butte public-school teacher)

Also known as: Miss Kate Cosgrove

family confidence: 0 — not family / context

Party member #5 on the 1907 diary, bracketed with her sister Nell in JJM's original list. Probably (0.8) the Kate Cosgrove who taught in the Butte public schools from 1899: Grant building 1899-1902, Jefferson School 1903, and (per Westfall's unverified reading of the 1907 Polk directory) the Monroe School in 1907. Sister of Helen ("Nell") and probably of Esther Cosgrove, also a Butte teacher 1899-1903. "The Misses Cosgrove" lived in South Utah avenue, South Butte (1902-03), and at 515 E. 3rd St in 1907 (Westfall). Active in St. Joseph's parish, South Butte (choir 1902 and Easter 1910; Altar Society collector 1902; parish fair recording secretary 1903). Kin in the Flint Creek valley, Granite County (a cousin, Mrs. Owen McBride, 1899). Still "Miss" at Easter 1910; parents, birth, marriage and death not found. NOT the Terence A. Cosgrove, John and Mary Ann (Gilligan) Cosgrove, Anaconda Mike Cosgrove or Havre Cosgrove families. Research: research/docs/sagebrushers-companions-2026-09-28/cosgrove-sisters.md

Research pass 0.8 (cosgrove-sisters.md section 4) → 75 (strong): the joint match of teacher (Westfall's 1907 reading and the 1899-1903 school lists), a sister Helen ("her sister, Miss Helen", Philipsburg Mail 28 Jul 1899) who fits "Nell", South Butte residence, and the two singing together in 1910. No competing Kate Cosgrove found; no record ties the traveller to the teacher directly.
