Patrick "Tailor" Sullivan (m. Catherine Murphy 1884 Eyeries; tailor by trade)

Also known as: Patrick Sullivan Tailor, Patrick Sullivan, Pat Sullivan the Tailor

family confidence: 95 — certain (corroborated)Other paternal in-law

Married Catherine Murphy (JJM's paternal aunt = Patrick Murphy's sister) on 23 Feb 1884 at Eyeries. Per the cert, Patrick lived in Slieve (same townland as JJM's later 1883 birthplace); his father was John Sullivan of Reenavaud. USER SIGNAL 2026-05-27: Patrick was a **TAILOR by trade** — the user's family handle for him is "Patrick Sullivan Tailor" (or "Pat Tailor Sullivan"). NOT to be confused with the 1855 John Sullivan + Margaret Shea Sullivan line; an earlier speculative identification linking Patrick-Tailor to that Shea-Sullivan line is REJECTED per user. Patrick-Tailor's father John Sullivan of Reenavaud is most likely a different John Sullivan from Margaret Shea's first husband (same name, common Beara surname, distinct people). Children of Patrick "Tailor" Sullivan + Catherine Murphy (per the GEDCOM Catherine-Sullivan family): John (b. 1884), Mary (1886), **Nora (1888)**, Philip (1890), Patrick (1892), Denny (1893), Katie (1897). These are JJM's paternal first cousins via Catherine. Nora Sullivan in this child set = the 1910 Butte census "niece" of Ellen Murphy (b. 1888 Ireland, immigrated 1906, later m. John Hanley 1912). Confirmed by user 2026-05-27 as daughter of Catherine Murphy + Patrick "Tailor" Sullivan. Family tree (GEDCOM record merged here 2026-10-03): born about 1860; died at Ardgroom village (no date). The tree adds an eighth child, Daniel (b. 1900).

Annals of Beara," Volume IIThe family tree's 'Abt. 1860, Cork' cites nothing. The Annals list Sean (Philib) O'Sullivan and Nora Rahilly's children as Mary, Jack, Paddy, then Philip (Apr. 1847), Ellen (June 1857), Danny (Apr. 1860), Nora (July 1863) and Dan (Nov. 1866); dates start only with Philip, so on Riobard's order Paddy was born before April 1847, perhaps before the Eyeries register begins. Against that reading: born about 1845 he would have been about 55 at his last child's birth in 1900 (possible but late), and Riobard may not have ordered the undated children by age.

Inference: name and townland match the Annals' brother, but Philip Sullivan is a common name.

—occupation · a tailor ('Paddy O'Sullivan, a tailor'; 'known as Paddy Tailor')

Two independent late sources agree with the family's name for him: Riobard's Annals (which add that his father and grandfather were tailors) and Terese Murphy to Imelda, 20 Sept 1971 (archive/documents/letters/Joan's 1995 Letter and Attachments.pdf, p. 5; a loose letter, not filed as a source folder, so it has no source id) ('a handsome man who was a tailor. He was called Tailor Sullivan'). The 1884 and 1888 abstracts print 'Not Recorded' for occupation, so no register states it.

Terese Murphy to Imelda, 20 Sept 1971 (archive/documents/letters/Joan's 1995 Letter and Attachments.pdf, p. 5; a loose letter, not filed as a source folder, so it has no source id). The dating is an inference from 'At that time my father was an invalid': Patrick had been an invalid for eleven years by Jan 1908 and died in 1912.
