Michael Murphy (bapt. 28 May 1864, Ballycrovane; went to San Francisco; Patrick's brother)
Also known as: Michael Murphy (PJM's brother)
family confidence: 95 — certain (corroborated)Murphy (paternal)
Baptised 28 May 1864 at Ballycrovane, parish of Eyeries, son of James Murphy and Margaret Harrington (register, filed). The Annals of Beara II (B, child 6): 'Michael, May 1864, went to San Francisco.' Oliver Murphy's email: emigrated 1883, lived at 400 Bay, San Francisco, naturalised 30 July 1888; the 1920 census and WWII alien-registration entries Oliver also gives fit a man born about 1872 who was still an alien, so they may belong to another Michael Murphy. He is the other candidate for 'Michael Murphy', James's godfather in July 1883; the archive merged the godfather into the Ardgroom carpenter (b. ~1841) on Luke's word, 3 Oct 2026, keeping this caveat. Not Michael Murphy of section A (an earlier generation, m. Margaret McCarthy). Record created 4 Oct 2026 on Luke's instruction ('add … Patrick's brothers').

Other documented tie
- godparent of James Joseph "James J." Murphy (b. 1883 Ardgroom; d. 1938 LA)50Candidate only. James's baptism (Eyeries, 29 Jul 1883) names the sponsors 'Michael Murphy' and 'Catherine Murphy', with no address or relationship. Catherine was Patrick's sister, and a brother and sister of the absent father are the usual sponsors for a first child; this Michael was 19. Against: Oliver Murphy says he emigrated in 1883, so he may have sailed before the baptism. Analyst's estimate 50 (b01, b02b). The Ardgroom carpenter, into whom Luke merged the godfather on 3 Oct 2026 (kept on Luke's call of 4 Oct), 25; another Michael, 25. Settled by his 1883 sailing date or by sponsorship patterns in the Eyeries register. · 1883-07-29 — Parish of Eyeries, Diocese of Kerry — Register of Baptisms; 1864-05-28 — irishgenealogy.ie church records (Kerry RC, Eyeries), transcription index page; undated — Riobárd Ó Dwyer, "Who Were My Ancestors?
