Summary

Roman Catholic church marriage record. - Date: 23 Feb 1884 - Husband: **Patrick Sullivan** of **Slieve** — known in the family as **"Patrick Sullivan Tailor"** (he was a tailor by trade per user signal 2026-05-27). Father **John Sullivan** of **Reenavaud**. - Wife: **Catherine Murphy** of **Fawnkil**; RC; father **James Murphy** of **Fawnkil** - Witnesses: **James McCarthy** of **Eyries** + **Philip Sullivan** of **Reenavaud** - Priest: **J. Larkin** (same priest as the 1881 Pat-Ellen marriage 3 years earlier; continuing Eyeries-area parish service) **Locks ONE key identification**: **Catherine Murphy = JJM's paternal aunt + godmother**. Her father is "James Murphy" — same name as Patrick Murphy's father (the GEDCOM-attested James Murphy b. ~1816 Ballycrovane). Catherine is Patrick Murphy's sister and **almost certainly the same Catherine Murphy who served as JJM's godmother at the 1883 baptism** (her father James is of Fawnkil per the abstract's notes, occupation Not Recorded; the same James Murphy who appears on the 1881 Pat-Ellen marriage cert as Patrick's father). **REJECTED HYPOTHESIS (per user 2026-05-27)**: an earlier reading of this cert speculated that Patrick Sullivan = son of the 1855 John Sullivan + Margaret Shea marriage, which would have made him Ellen Lyne's half-brother and braided the Murphy + Sullivan + Lyne families together a second time. **The user clarified that Patrick Sullivan (Tailor) is from a different Sullivan line**; his father John Sullivan of Reenavaud is most likely a DIFFERENT John Sullivan from Margaret Shea's first husband (common Beara surname, distinct people). No Sullivan-via-Shea double-braid; Patrick Tailor Sullivan enters JJM's family only as uncle-by-marriage via Catherine. Children of Patrick "Tailor" Sullivan + Catherine Murphy (per the GEDCOM Catherine-Sullivan family): John (1884), Mary (1886), **Nora (1888)**, Philip (1890), Patrick (1892), Denny (1893), Katie (1897). All JJM's paternal first cousins via Catherine. **Nora Sullivan** = the 1910 Butte census "niece" of Ellen Murphy (b. 1888 Ireland, immigrated 1906; later m. John Hanley 1912 per the Butte Daily Post wedding announcement). Confirmed by user 2026-05-27 as Catherine + Patrick-Tailor's daughter.

JJM's uncle-by-marriage via Catherine Murphy. Tailor by trade. User clarified (2026-05-27) the earlier speculative tie to the 1855 John Sullivan + Margaret Shea marriage is REJECTED; Patrick-Tailor is from a different Sullivan line.

    residence: Fawnkil

Same Catherine Murphy who served as JJM's godmother in 1883 (per the baptism cert). --- newspaper: Roots Ireland "Church Marriage Record" (Cork South West / Irish Family History Foundation online index abstract, printed from a browser to PDF); a typed database abstract, not a newspaper and not an image of the parish register date: 1884-02-23 (date of marriage as given) page: single printed page; no register book, page or entry number is shown transcribed_by: claude-sonnet-5-5 (Claude Code subagent), 2026-10-04 method: source.pdf (1 page, 612 x 792 pt, Chrome "Skia/PDF"). Rasterised with pdftoppm at 300 dpi (2550 x 3300 px). The form fills the top 2150 px; it was cut into six tiles (two columns x three rows, 60 px overlap, rows to y = 2100), each upscaled 2x with LANCZOS; the monospace Notes box was re-cut in two halves and upscaled 3x so that both of its lines could be read whole, and the footer strip below y = 2100 was re-cut at 3x. Everything was read from the image first; the PDF's text layer was compared afterwards and agrees exactly. Each two-box name field is written forename | surname. Bands are listed left-hand band first, then right-hand band, as on the form. Empty boxes are marked [blank]. Printed text, including "Not Recorded" and the capitals of the Notes box, is kept exactly; the Notes box breaks its line after "WIT" and that break is kept. proofed_by: claude-opus-5-5, 2026-10-04 --- # Church Marriage Record [logo] - **Date of Marriage:** 23-Feb-1884 - **Parish / District:** EYERIES - **County:** Co. Open questions

  • Disentangle `person_catherine_murphy_aughabrack` (originally created for the 1881 Reynolds-case Catherine Murphy at Aughabrack) from `person_catherine_murphy_godmother_of_jjm_1883` (= this 1884 bride = Patrick Murphy's sister). The GEDCOM matcher previously linked the Aughabrack record to GEDCOM Catherine b. ~1864 — that linkage should be reversed if the Aughabrack 1881 woman is a different Catherine from Patrick's sister. Three potentially-distinct Catherine Murphys of Beara b. 1860s — needs careful disambiguation pass.
  • Patrick Sullivan = son of John Sullivan + Margaret Shea? Plausible from address overlap (Sullivan family of the same Eyeries area) but residence-of-father differs (Reenavaud here vs Agroom in 1855). Could be the same John Sullivan with a family move, or two distinct John Sullivans.
