Murphy Family Tree, 1967: 'Patrick Murphy, Balykrewan, County Cork, Ireland'; Ellen Lyne (1859-1935)
Murphy family papers · private family document · 1967
Summary
A hand-lettered chart of the ancestors of the children of James J. Murphy Jr. and Marie A. Schueller, made in 1967, the year of Terese Murphy's letter of 9 April, and agreeing with that letter in its spelling "Balykrewan". Probably the school family-history project that the letter was written to help. Luke Murphy (4 Oct 2026) says the letter answered questions for such a project; the chart carries the same year, charts that generation's ancestors and uses the letter's spelling. That the chart is the project itself is an inference. The Murphy line as lettered: "Patrick Murphy, Balykrewan, County Cork, Ireland" (no dates) and "Ellen Lyne (1859-1935), Ardgroom, County Cork, Ireland", daughter of "Myles Lyne"; their son "James J. Murphy (1885-1938), County Cork, Ireland" (the year is 1883 in his baptism and civil birth entries); his wife "Agnes R. Murphy (1887-1967), Walkerville, Montana", daughter of John Kelly and Mary Chatham (1862-1940). Notes added by hand beside Patrick: "(Shoemaker)", and "Eyeries / Ardgroom / Bally Cre[van]" and "(Sister marri[ed] 'Tay[lor Sullivan]')", cut off at the edge of the copy. They repeat Terese Murphy's letter of 20 Sept 1971. By Myles Lyne: "Castletown, Sacred Heart Church". By James: "Castletown". The chart gives Patrick no dates. It is evidence for where the family placed his birth, Ballycrovane, and for Ellen's birth year as the family had it, 1859.
