Summary

Entry 10 of four 1865 marriages registered together on this page. **Myles Lyne** (Full age, **Widower**, Farmer, of [Letterfinneen?], father **Jeremiah Lyne**, Farmer) married **Margaret Shea alias Sullivan** (Full age, **Widow**, of Ardgroom; father **Tim Shea**, Farmer) on **9 June 1865** at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Eyries, Union of Castletown. Solemnized by **Michael O'Reilly, P.P.** Witnesses: **Jeremiah McCarthy** and **Ellen O'Reilly** (the co-witness name is plain on the return). Registered + certified by **T. R. Harrington**, Superintendent Registrar of Castletown, 19 October 1865; the district Registrar of Kilcatherine (signature illegible) certified the copy first. **Both parties were widowed** at this 1865 marriage: - Myles Lyne was previously married (probably had Lyne children from a first marriage) - Margaret Shea was previously married to a Sullivan (per the "alias Sullivan" notation — confirmed by the 1855 Sullivan-Shea marriage cert: John Sullivan + Margaret Shea m. 20 Feb 1855 Eyeries). John Sullivan died before 1865, leaving Margaret widowed with possible Sullivan children.

--- newspaper: Irish civil marriage return, certified true copy of four Roman Catholic marriages, entries Nos. 7 to 10 (Registrar's District of Kilcatherine, Union of Castletown, Co. Cork), page 41 (not a newspaper) date: 1865-06-09 (entry 10, the target; entries 7 to 9 are dated 29 and 23 July 1865; the copy is certified 30 September and 19 October 1865) page: Page "4[?]5" (handwritten) over a stamped 41; one sheet carrying entries 7, 8, 9 and 10; reference 08263215 printed at the top transcribed_by: claude-sonnet-5-5 (Claude Code subagent), 2026-10-04 method: PDF rasterised at 300 dpi (one bilevel 300 ppi scan, 4775 x 6395 px). The page was read at about 0.9x in left and right halves for each entry, then every doubtful cell was re-cut at 2.4x to 8x (LANCZOS), the cursive cells also with a slant correction that stands the writing upright, and the certificate block was read in four pieces. Entries 7 to 10 are in one hurried, strongly right-slanted hand (the clerk's copy). Table rows follow the form: the first line of each cell belongs to the first person named (the groom), the second line to the second person (the bride); a slash marks a line break inside a cell. Printed words are in roman; in the certificate the handwritten fill-ins are in bold. proofed_by: claude-opus-5-5, 2026-10-04 --- # Marriages solemnized at the Roman Catholic Chapel, Registrar's District of Kilcatherine, 1865: entries 7 to 10 **Superintendent Registrar's District of** Castletown **Page** 4[?]5 [handwritten] / 41 [stamped, bold, directly below] 08263215 [printed at the top of the sheet] ## Entry 7 **18**65. Open questions

  • Myles Lyne's first wife and any children from that marriage — unknown. Worth probing pre-1865 Eyeries parish registers for a "Myles Lyne" first marriage.
  • The townland where Myles lived in 1865 — handwriting reads as "[Letterfinneen?]" (read 4 Oct 2026), the townland printed for a Myles Lyne in the 1839 Kenmare notices; not "Lehinverin", "Lehid Veen" or "Lehinveen".
  • Witness "Ellen O'Reilly" — possibly related to the officiating priest Michael O'Reilly P.P., or a separate family.
