Pastor of St. Lawrence O'Toole church, Walkerville (the church named on the 1908 marriage certificate). The Butte Daily Post of 6 Nov 1909 says 'the Rev. Father Batens' married Tish Maloney and Margaret Scully at St. Lawrence; the civil marriage certificate (1909-11-03_silver-bow-county-mt_patrick-tish-maloughney-margaret-scully-marriage) and the Anaconda Standard (1909-11-04_anaconda-standard_tish-margaret-scully-married-at-st-marys) give Father English at St. Mary's, so that report is probably wrong. Not Father English (St. Mary's, 1909; possibly the M. M. English who was pastor of St. Patrick's in 1946). Record created 4 Oct 2026 (full analysis, promoted names, batch b10b).

| 1909-11-03 | event · reported by the Butte Daily Post as having performed the marriage of 'Tish' Maloney and Margaret Scully at St. Lawrence church (Butte, Montana) Recorded only so the claim is not lost: the civil marriage certificate and the Anaconda Standard of 4 Nov 1909 give Father English at St. Mary's. | 10 | 1909-11-06 — The Butte Daily Post, p.7 |
| 1912-03-04 | event · spoke to the toast 'My Impressions of an A. O. H. Banquet' at the banquet for National President James J. Regan of the AOH at Gregson Springs, and was seated at the banquet board (Gregson Springs, Montana) The Butte Daily Post of 5 Mar 1912; the curated and vision transcriptions agree. The clipping's metadata gives him the toast 'Montana', which was P. J. Brophy's. | 95 | 1912-03-05 — The Butte Daily Post, p.4 |
| 1914-03 | event · away 'resting in Cuba' with Mgr. De Siere for some weeks early in 1914; 'Father Bourke of St. Lawrence parish ... shouldering the burden of the entire parish in the absence of Father Batens' (Butte, Montana) An item elsewhere on the page of that clipping (in its full-page transcription_claude.md, not proofed), not the clipping's own article. | 90 | 1914-03-02 — The Anaconda Standard, p.7 |
| 1922-03 | office · pastor of St. Lawrence's church: 'the Rev. F. X. Batens, pastor of the church' (Anaconda Standard); 'Father F. X. Baten's parish' (Butte Miner) (Walkerville, Montana) Two papers. The 17 Mar 1922 item is a separate article on the page of that clipping (in its full-page transcription_claude.md), not the clipping's banquet list. | 100 | 1922-02-24 — The Butte Miner, p.5; 1922-03-12 — The Anaconda Standard, p.26; 1922-03-17 — The Anaconda Standard, p.8 |
| 1922-03-17 | event · silver jubilee: a pontifical high mass celebrated by Bishop Carroll at St. Lawrence's church on St Patrick's Day 1922 'in honor of the silver jubilee of the pastor, the Rev. F. X. Batens', with a banquet for him at the Silver Bow club; the Standard speaks of 'the 25 years that he has ministered to the people' (Butte, Montana) Anaconda Standard, 12 and 17 Mar 1922 (read from the vision transcriptions; the 12 Mar curated text is a partial reading that misses it). The Butte Miner of 24 Feb 1922 calls the day the 'silver jubilee of St. Lawrence church' and names James J. Murphy treasurer of the committee on arrangements. The papers agree on 25 years (from about 1897) but not on whose jubilee it was. | 95 | 1922-03-12 — The Anaconda Standard, p.26; 1922-03-17 — The Anaconda Standard, p.8; 1922-02-24 — The Butte Miner, p.5 |
