Michael Murphy (Ardgroom carpenter, b. ~1841; James's godfather of 1883 by Luke's merge, unproven)

Also known as: Michael Murphy of Ardgroom

family confidence: 75 — strongMurphy (paternal)

Head of household in the 1901 Census of Ireland for Ardgroom parish — age 60, Married, Carpenter, Co. Cork-born, with wife Mary (Kerry-born, age 50) and adult children Daniel (24, Scholar), Annie (20), and a son age 24 (Carpenter, first name unclear at current rendering). Also carries the "Michael Murphy" named as godfather (sponsor) on JJM's 29 July 1883 baptismal cert at Eyeries: the separate godfather record was merged here 2026-10-03 on the user's instruction. His age fits (b. ~1841, about 42 at the baptism). CAVEAT, kept from both records: the register gives only the sponsor's name. Seamus Mór's son Michael, Patrick's brother, was baptised 28 May 1864 at Ballycrovane and "went to San Francisco" (Annals II p. 270; user signal 2026-05-27), and at 19 he is the other candidate for the godfather. If the godfather was that brother, he is not this Ardgroom carpenter, who was still in Ireland in 1901. Luke's call, 4 Oct 2026: keep the merge for now, with this note. Godparent link here: 25 (analyst's estimate). The 1864 Michael has his own record (person_michael_murphy_ballycrovane_b1864) with a candidate godparent link at 50; a third Michael Murphy: 25.
