Summary

**THE LOAD-BEARING ANNALS ENTRY FOR OUR PATRICK MURPHY.** Verbatim text: > "PATRICK MURPHY & ELLEN LYNE (ARDGROOM VILLAGE). The > position of this house (later a cabin and now knocked down) > was between Jim Malvey's and Timmy Riney's of Ardgroom > Cross. Patrick Murphy came over 'cliamhain isteach'. He > was son of **James Murphy and Mary O'Leary, Eyeries > Village**. Ellen Lyne was daughter of **Myles Lyne and > Margaret O'Shea**. The house belonged to Ellen. Patrick > and Ellen had a son James (July 26th 1883)…" Three independent claims of decisive interest: 1. **Pat's parents per O'Dwyer**: James Murphy + Mary O'Leary of Eyeries Village. Under Hyp B (Seamus Mor framework), this is treated as an oral-tradition slip — "Peig" (Irish for Margaret) → misremembered as Mary; "Harrington" → misremembered as O'Leary. Under Hyp A (Joseph + Crounhane framework), this is treated as O'Dwyer being wrong on both parents. Under a literal reading, this is a THIRD framework — James Murphy + Mary O'Leary of Eyeries Village as a distinct couple from both the 1858 Gort Joseph + Crounhane couple and the Ballycrovane Seamus Mor + Peig Uonhi couple. 2. **Ellen's parents**: Myles Lyne + Margaret O'Shea — the first explicit naming of Ellen Lyne Murphy's mother in the archive. Should be promoted to a person record once the briefing-pending-records question is resolved. person_myles_lyne_ardgroom already exists for the father. 3. **"Cliamhain isteach"** — Irish for "the man who marries into the wife's family and moves into her house." This is why Pat ended up in Ardgroom Village (Ellen's family's house) rather than wherever in Eyeries parish his birth family lived. The house "belonged to Ellen." The page also contains preceding entries for MRS. KATE O'HARA's shop (with the Mark Murphy of Reenavaude + Kate (Denny) Harrington history) and JIM MALVEY + JULIA O'SULLIVAN (Ardgroom Village neighbors). Contextual but not directly family-relevant.

--- newspaper: unknown date: unknown page: 271 --- Riobard O'Dwyer, N.T. 271 living down near Capall Bridge in a farm now owned by Joe McCarthy, The Bridge, Ardgroom Village. Mick who had returned from the U.S.A. was son of Denny Sheehan and Mairead O'Sullivan, Inisfernard Island. Mary was a sister of Mickey (Nance) Murphy and an aunt of Tady (Mickey) Murphy, Gorth, Urhan. Mick and Mary had 9 children, born down in the farm near Capall Bridge: — (1) Mary married a Mr. English, a schoolteacher in Colleros, Lauragh. She died in Dublin in later years; (2) Jim married Mary (Morty Eoin) O'Sullivan, daughter of Morty Eoin O'Sullivan, Eskadower & later Ardgroom Village, went to Douglas Coalfield, South Wales; (3) Patsy (Mar. 28th 1876) went to the U.S.A.; (4) & (5) twins, Brigid and Nora (Jan. 4th 1878). Brigid went to the U.S.A.; (6) Mike (Apr. 8th 1880) also went to the U.S.A.; (7) Julia (Sept. 4th 1882) lived near Castletownbere; (8) Katie (Nov. 27th 1884) died in Ardgroom; (9) Maggie went to the U.S.A. Around the 1930's new occupants came to this house in the village. They were Johnny O'Shea — brother of Tady, Mike and Jimmy — son of Jim O'Shea and Julia O'Mahony, Reenavaude, and his wife Annie O'Sullivan, a native of Lauragh. In fairly recent years the house was bought and lived in by Annie O'Dwyer — sister of Liam O'Dwyer, Senior, Ardgroom Village — daughter of Johnny O'Dwyer and Ellen Lynch, Caolrua. Annie, who had come back from New York, died in Castletownbere Hospital. The house is closed at present. **MRS. KATE O'HARA (SHOP, ARDGROOM VILLAGE)** Back in the 1860's Jack Minihane of Cummeendeach and his wife Nora Harrington, Ahabrock, lived in this house before moving to Liosnagat, Canfie. Jack's daughter, Norry (born in Ardgroom Village), married in Glenbeg and was mother of Jack Crowley etc. Many years later, Mark Murphy of Reenavaude came home from Butte and bought Jack Minihane's house in Ardgroom Village. Mark, who was son of Jack Murphy and Fanny Healy, Reenavaude, then married Kate (Denny) Harrington — sister of Jer (Denny) etc. — daughter of Denny Harrington and Margaret Twomey, Ardgroom Village. Twelve years later Mark died at the age of 48 years, and six years after that Kate remarried. Her second husband Michael O'Hara, who was a ganger in Ardgroom, was son of Thomas O'Hara and Elizabeth Pardy, Loughrea, Co. Galway. After Kate had died, Michael O'Hara remained in the shop in Ardgroom before returning to Loughrea. The shop is now closed up. **JIM MALVEY & JULIA O'SULLIVAN (ARDGROOM VILLAGE)** This house was next to and below Mrs. Kate O'Hara's shop. Jim Malvey was son of Tadhg Og Malvey and Mary (Phadraig) O'Sullivan, Gortalassa, Barrakilla — a little way down from John Hartnett's. Julia O'Sullivan — sister of Quinlan O'Sullivan, shoemaker, Ardgroom Village — was daughter of Mort O'Sullivan and Mary O'Shea, Canfie West. Jim and Julia had 5 children: - (1) Patie (Feb. 18th 1896) went to New York; (2) Mary (July 21st 1897) married Frank Darrell in New York; (3) John (June 12th 1902) went to New York and married Lena O'Sullivan, daughter of Patsy (Phil) O'Sullivan and Nano O'Shea, Canfie West. Later moved to Port Angeles, Pacific Coast; (4) Jim and (5) Mikie (Aug. 22nd 1907) both went to New York. The house is now closed. **PATRICK MURPHY & ELLEN LYNE (ARDGROOM VILLAGE)** The position of this house (later a cabin and now knocked down) was between Jim Malvey's and Timmy Riney's of Ardgroom Cross. Patrick Murphy came over "cliamhain isteach". He was son of James Murphy and Mary O'Leary, Eyeries Village. Ellen Lyne was daughter of Myles Lyne and Margaret O'Shea. The house belonged to Ellen. Patrick and Ellen had a son James (July 26th 1883) ## Peripheral items - Page header: "Riobard O'Dwyer, N.T. 271" — running header/page number for what appears to be a book or extended historical record of families in the Ardgroom Village area.

Open questions

  • Resolve the literal-Annals reading (James Murphy + Mary O'Leary of Eyeries Village as Pat's parents) against Hyp A and Hyp B. The literal reading would be a THIRD framework — neither matches the 1858 Gort baptism (Joseph + Crounhane) nor the Seamus Mor + Peig Uonhi unified-family theory.
  • Confirm Margaret O'Shea as Ellen Lyne's mother across the existing person_margaret_oshea_biological_mother_of_ellen_lyne and person_ellen_lyne_informant_1872_myles_death records.
