Timothy Shea (bapt. 16 July 1820 Rusacussane, Kenmare; m. Margaret Sullivan 1838 Allihies; father of Margaret Shea in the family tree)
family confidence: 75 — strongShea (paternal in-law via Margaret Shea Lyne)
Margaret Shea's father in the family tree (JJM's maternal great-grandfather). Three records merged 2026-10-03 on the user's instruction: - **Baptism, 16 July 1820, Kenmare RC parish, Kerry**: parents John + Margaret Shea of Rusacussane townland; godparents Timothy Shea + Mary Leyne (= Lyne). - **Marriage, 9 Feb 1838, Allihies**: Timothy Shea of Cluane to Margaret Sullivan, with a 4th-degree consanguinity dispensation. He would have been 17. - **Family tree (GEDCOM)**: Timothy Shea, b. 1820, Kenmare, Kerry; husband of Margaret Sullivan; father of Margaret Shea (b. 7 May 1839, Cluin). The tree's own note: "may have fought in civil war, if he lived in Ohio." The three had been held apart as possibly the same man; each source link keeps its own confidence. One point against the tree's line: the 1865 Lyne-Shea marriage certificate reads the bride's father's name as "[John?] Shea", an uncertain reading.

Each fact shows how sure the archive is of it (0–100) and the sources it rests on.
- Birth:
- ~1820, Rusacussane (townland near Kenmare) 301820-07-16 — Kerry Genealogy / Roots Ireland — Church Baptism Record abstract; 2026-05-27 — Luke Murphy family tree (Ancestry.com)Rests wholly on the 1820 Kenmare baptism (typed Roots Ireland abstract, proofed 4 Oct 2026): baptised 16-Jul-1820, Address Rusacussane, Date of Birth blank. The Kenmare child is this man only if the Timothy Shea baptised at Kenmare in July 1820 is the Timothy Shea of Cluane who married at Allihies in Feb 1838. Nothing but the name joins them: the family tree's 'b. 1820, Kenmare' has no citation and very probably comes from the same Roots Ireland abstract, so it is not independent. Against: the groom would have been 17; he was already 'of Cluane' on Beara; he married a woman related to him 'in the 4th and 4th degree', which points to a local man; and Timothy Shea is a common name in Beara and south Kerry (a Timothy Shea, miner, was at Cluin in 1866). Luke merged the records on 3 Oct 2026 ('merge the tim sheas'); Claude's estimate for the whole merge was then 55. Analyst's estimate for the Kenmare part now: 30.

- child of John Shea (Kenmare Kerry; father of Timothy Shea b.1820)30The 1820 abstract names John Shea as father of the Timothy baptised then (95 for that child). That the child is this man (the 1838 groom and the tree's Timothy) is 30: The Kenmare child is this man only if the Timothy Shea baptised at Kenmare in July 1820 is the Timothy Shea of Cluane who married at Allihies in Feb 1838. - child of Margaret Shea (married name; m. John Shea; mother of Timothy Shea b.1820)30The 1820 abstract names Margaret Shea as mother of the Timothy baptised then (95 for that child); that the child is this man is 30 (Luke's merge of 3 Oct 2026; see birth). · 1820-07-16 — Kerry Genealogy / Roots Ireland — Church Baptism Record abstract
- parent of Margaret (Shea) Sullivan Lyne (JJM's maternal grandmother)65The family tree gives Margaret Shea, born and baptised 7 May 1839 at Cluin, daughter of Timothy Shea and Margaret Sullivan, citing the Irish Catholic parish registers (NLI microfilm 04286, part 01); the citation ids of child, father and mother appear to point to one register entry, which is not filed in the archive (Luke's research deck indexes the same baptism as 'Margreta O'Shea', 7 May 1839, Eyeries). The 1838 groom's 'Cluane' matches the baptism's 'Cluin'. That this 1839 child is James's grandmother (married John Sullivan 1855, Myles Lyne 1865) is the tree's identification. Today's transcription of the 1865 civil marriage return (Sonnet, 4 Oct 2026, not yet proofed) reads her father as '[T?]im Shea', Farmer (Tim 60, against Jim or Dim), where the record had '[John?] Shea' as the one point against the tree; it now supports it. Against: she would have been 15 at her first marriage (Feb 1855), and the Annals call her 'Margaret O'Shea of Direenavogig' (a residence at marriage, not a birthplace). Tree with a cited register entry (about 85 for the 1839 parentage) times the identification (about 75): 65. · 2026-05-27 — Luke Murphy family tree (Ancestry.com); 1838-02-09 — Irish Family History Foundation — Cork South West Roots Ireland; 1865-06-09 — Marriage Returns, Superintendent Registrar's District of Castletown
