Summary
The Murphy "Jas" entries of the 1925 Los Angeles city directory (p. 1450). The only two James J. Murphys listed are "Jas J clk r514 E Anaheim Wilm" and "Jas J phone opr r2514 W 6th". Neither is James J. Murphy of Butte, whose Murphy-Softley store there closed on 30 Aug 1924. He first appears in the 1926 edition ("Jas J dept mgr Bullock's h433 W 60th", p. 1508). Kept as negative evidence for the date of the move; one missing entry is weak evidence on its own (the canvass may simply have missed him).
