Also known as: Con Murphy Sr.
family confidence: 25 — candidate (user review)Murphy (paternal)
Patriarch commemorated on a Cork Catholic headstone erected by his sons John & Jeremiah Murphy. Died 2 Feb 1879 aged 61 (b. ~1818). Possibly a brother of James Murphy (b. ~1816 Ballycrovane, JJM's paternal grandfather per GEDCOM) given the close birth-year proximity. If so, Cornelius is JJM's paternal great-uncle. - Birth:
- 1818, Castletownbere, County Cork 251879-02-02 — Family headstone photograph (private)25 for the record's 1818 at Castletownbere. From 'aged 61' at death on 2 Feb 1879 he was born between 3 Feb 1817 and 2 Feb 1818, so 1817 is the likelier year (about nine chances in ten if the age is right); the stone was put up by his sons after their mother's death in 1907, so the age is family memory (75 for 'about 1817'). The stone names no place and the cemetery is unidentified; Castletownbere was assumed when the photo was filed, on the strength of a family connection that is itself unproven. The maker's mark at the foot of the stone appears to read '...GLASNEVIN' (a Dublin monumental works; analyst's reading of the photograph, about 60).
